Coleman Instant Up Northstar 10P Dark Room Tent(5) By: Bron Darcy on 10 October 2018We bought this tent for our young family at the beginning of 2018 (1 & 3 y.o. girls), in the hope we could do day sleeps well and not have crack of dawn starts either. We also wanted an easy setup and packdown tent. We’ve camped a couple of times now in both sunny days, wet and windy nights and absolutely love the tent. It truly is dark (which still amazes us), plenty of space and quick and easy to put up and down (which my husband has had to do with and without me depending on how helpful our girls are being). The slight negatives: it’s a big and heavy tent (I can’t lift it easily on my own). It does get warm when in the sun, but opening all the vents helps. Finally - there isn’t any hooks or loops for lights that would be helpful on the inside. Overall though - a great tent that ticks all the boxes for us.

Coleman Instant Up Northstar 10P Dark Room Tent(2) By: Mark Challoner on 29 March 2018Good tent in gentle weather conditions - but be very careful with it in windy conditions. My Coleman InstantUp Northstar 10 tent was torn to pieces and most of the poles snapped after only having it for three months [used three times]. I've been camping for 35 years and never seen a tent destroyed so completely, in such a wind. So, I wouldn't recommend this tent if/when the weather turns.
Tentworld ResponseOuch, very sorry to hear about the damage to your tent. All Coleman tents are wind tested as part of their design process prior to final production. They do however rely heavily on all guy ropes being out, to endure severe weather. Best practise, is to always put out all your guy ropes and fully peg your tent no matter how fine the weather is. Without the guy ropes, the tent is very vulnerable to even slight wind bursts and can do severe damage quickly. Afterall, there is nothing stronger than solid earth - it's not going anywhere!!! So using this great asset to improve the strength of your portable tent makes sense! It's also important to know that if you're setup in a severe storm, you may need to get out of bed to resecure pegs that might have been torn out of the ground. Failure to do this greatly weakens the overall strength of the tent, and can result in multiple failures like you've described above. In severe weather storms, all manufacturers recommend you pack your tent away and endure the storm in your vehicle. If however you choose not to do that, unfortunately this is not something you can claim under warranty. You might be able to talk to your home & contents insurer as some do cover storm damage to camping equipment, but some dont. You'd need to check with them. Alternatively, we do try to find spare parts to help you repair your tent so if you can itemise the broken items we can try to source these for you, for minimal cost so you can start enjoying your tent again. I hope you've found the above informative. Happy Camping & Kind Regards ~ Tentworld team.
